In 2026, Chris Nancrede delivered a company-wide simulcast presentation to Stantec focused on Legionella prevention and the role plumbing designers play in reducing waterborne pathogen risk in building water systems.
The presentation explored how plumbing engineers and designers can proactively address Legionella risks through system design, specification development, and water management planning. Chris discussed common system vulnerabilities, transmission pathways, and the importance of incorporating Legionella prevention strategies early in the design process.
A significant portion of the presentation focused on writing effective plumbing specifications that support long-term water safety goals. This included guidance on incorporating water management requirements into project documents, commissioning considerations, and specifying practices that help reduce stagnation, temperature loss, and other conditions that contribute to Legionella growth.
Chris also reviewed practical engineering approaches for Legionella control, including hot water system design considerations, filtration strategies, piping layout concepts, and operational considerations that impact ongoing risk management.
The simulcast webinar was presented to Stantec team members across multiple offices as part of the company’s continuing education and technical knowledge-sharing initiatives.
